You've created a new campaign and a new placement. Now you now need to upload the ad creative files (or codes, if the ad is hosted elsewhere) inside that placement. First, check the appropriate distribution method. These options are useful when you have more than one ad:

  • Rotated: AdGear will alternate ads for every individual site visitor. The rotation order can be changed by using the Move up and Move down arrows on the right side.
  • Weighted: AdGear will ensure that all impressions delivered are distributed according to defined percentages. The percentages can be changed by using the Increase weight and Decrease weight arrows.
  • CTR Optimized: AdGear will make ad selection weights vary dynamically according to historical ad click-through rates (CTRs). Please note that this is likely to work best for longer-running placements.

Clicking on the New Ad button will bring up a window allowing you to add the creative right into the placement. You can choose among several ad types:

  • Flash: Upload the Flash (SWF) file; enter the Click Destination URL (don't forget the http:// prefix) and select the Flash version. Note: Even though you must enter the click-through URL here, the ad won't be clickable unless the clickTAG is correctly implemented when the SWF ad is created. You can also include a Third-party impression witness pixel URL in the case where another party (for instance, the agency) needs to track the ad impressions. Checking the Include random number token box will enable cache busting in order to prevent browsers or proxies from serving ads from their cache. This forces the user or proxy to fetch a fresh copy for each request, providing a more accurate count of the number of requests from users.
  • HTML: Paste the HTML code snippet, which will be served and written out to the page dynamically (via Javascript) by the user's browser at load time.
  • Image: Upload the image file and enter the Click Destination URL (don't forget the http:// prefix).
  • Javascript: Paste the Javascript code and upload the files (if applicable). In the case where many files are used within the same ad creative, you can configure several Custom JavaScript variables. If you need to track multiple clicks and interactions (ex.: mouse over), you can configure as many trackers as required.
  • Third Party: In the case where the ad creative is hosted by an external party (ex.: the agency), you can enter the Third Party tag. You can also insert a Click Tracker token, which will allow you to track clicks. Using the Random number token will enable cache busting in order to prevent browsers or proxies from serving ads from their cache. This forces the user or proxy to fetch a fresh copy for each request, providing a more accurate count of the number of requests from users.

Click on the Save button when you are done. Repeat the process for each version of ad creative.
